An Eyeful Photography from and for the discerning eye


Ankur Malhotra is co-founder of Amarrass Records, a multi-faceted independent record label based in India and the US. An avid musicologist, he explores, engages, and connects musical traditions from around the world. Ankur’s work has been featured in The New York Times, on NPR, and BBC Radio. He also founded Madison Music Review in 2007, a website to share information on music and events in Madison. He is actively engaged in the vibrant music scene in Madison, presenting and touring with music groups presenting across all genres of music – from traditional, to folk, jazz and electronic. He is co-producer of Madison’s eclectic street music festivals – Musique Electronique@La Fete de Marquette and Willy St. Beats. He is a DJ on the Friday Buzz on WORT 89.9FM (where he also served on the Board of Directors). Ankur grew up in New Delhi, India and holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering (from Bangalore) and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He spent the better part of the 2000’s as an entrepreneur and consultant working with education, technology and media companies in the US.

A self–taught photographer, he has been clicking things that capture his eye since 2005. His work has primarily focused on music, nature and travel photography and Ankur has documented hundreds of artist performances, concerts and music festivals across the US, in Europe and in India. Ankur’s work has been exhibited in the U.S. and India, and his photographs have been published in The Independent (UK), Rolling Stone India, Hindustan Times, HT Brunch, Indian Express, The Telegraph, The Onion, The Isthmus/The Daily Page, The, and TimeOut New Delhi.

He spends his time between US and India discovering and producing music, documenting through film and photographs, and touring with musicians.
